Wawasan Open University (WOU) x Almacrest International College

WOU was established in 2006

Good news to all the students! Currently, Almacrest International College (AIC) is currently collaborating with Wawasan Open University (WOU) as a learning centre for those who wish to pursue their Bachelor Degree and Master’s Degree! As a learning centre and a partner for WOU, we act as a trusted provider of affordable and quality higher education that WOU aims for all Malaysians.

Who is this for?

The University has spread its wings in September 2013 to offer full-time degree programmes for STPM school leavers and diploma holders at its Main Campus in Penang.

WOU also targets those who have less formal education sufficient to pursue higher learning through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). APEL encourages individuals to improve their knowledge, leading to the award of a formal academic qualification certificate. This will provide a major upgrade in terms of career development.

APEL provides the opportunity for individuals with working experience but lack of formal academic qualifications to pursue their studies in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In general, knowledge obtained through formal education and working experience will be both assessed in APEL’s assessment.

What problem we solve?

As the people’s university, WOU believes in providing education and lifelong learning opportunities to all for self-enrichment and professional advancement. By opening the door to tertiary education, WOU ensures that more Malaysians are now able to pursue an affordable degree.

Why WOU courses?

Open Distance Learning (ODL)

Our unique ODL approach is ideal for adult learners who seek to pursue tertiary qualifications for professional development and self-enrichment in a flexible and affordable manner, regardless of their previous educational, ethnic or socio-economic background. More than 25,000 working professionals in Malaysia have, to date, experienced the learning opportunities at WOU while they continue in their jobs.

ODL involves:

  • Face-to-face tutorial sessions (five or more per semester), with highly qualified tutors who are also readily available to you between tutorials via phone and email.
  • Comprehensive course materials
  • Access to their e-library
  • Our Learning Management System (LMS), an online platform to input information and for online discussions/forum with your peers, tutors and course coordinators.

How can this benefit you?

It doesn’t matter where you live. You have the flexibility to study at your home or workplace, and also our regional centres in Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Bandar Utama, where we offer computer facilities if you do not have your own.

You may study for a single course without committing yourself further. Alternatively, you may take several courses one after the other until you have obtained a qualification. You may even take a break between courses if you need to. You have the flexibility to choose the optimum number of credits to take each semester to suit your personal, work and study commitments.

Other than that, we offer an extensive range of recognised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, in business, technology, education, psychology and liberal studies. We also offer the research-based Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in the fields of Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Computing and Technology.
