CSR: AAA & ISO: Beach Cleaning Collaboration With Masesa

Everyone needs to carry out the responsibilities of taking care of the environment. Nowadays, we have seen much news regarding specific individuals and companies who do not care about the environment. They do not understand how important it is for us to keep our environment clean. If humankind continues to stay with this attitude, what is left for our future generation? That is why we want to emphasize to our students how dire the situation of our Mother Earth is if we do not take things seriously. We want to educate them to become role models, not just between the communities but also for the future generation.

On 19th July 2020, the Almacrest Alumni Association(AAA) and the International Student Organization (ISO) received an opportunity to collaborate with MASESA (Persatuan Mesra Alam Sekitar Sabah) to conduct a community service activity in support of environmental conservation. Which is Beach Cleaning at Teluk Likas, Kota Kinabalu.

This is the first environmental-related CSR that AAA is directly involved in. This exciting opportunity also includes other volunteers from various agencies, including MSU College (Management & Science University), Briged Muslimat Sepanggar, and Love Angel Sabah. Advisor of the AAA, Mr. Yakobus, had a brief and fruitful discussion with the president of Love Angel Sabah, Ms. Jenny. They suggested encouraging AAA to organise more CSR programs with them too in the future.

For the sake of the future generation, we should not ignore this issue. The public must be aware that if we do not take any action now, if we do not care about our surroundings, Earth will continue to be more and more polluted. Abundant toxins and contaminants will bring harmful effects to our planet and to all of us. As this is our home, together, we need to take better care of it.

This programme saw massive support from various volunteers; it attracted 83 volunteers and collected 350 kg of trash in a mere 1 hour.
The other objective is to strengthen the relationship between the ISO’s and their alumni. Most of our international students are from the Philippines. We encourage our students that it does not matter which country you are from, race, or religion; we are Almacrestians!

At the same time, we want our alumni to become the source of inspiration to their juniors by sharing their experiences during the time they were in Almacrest. Words of motivation were shared. We can see that our students are now aware of the current environmental situation, especially here in Sabah.
